The Virginia Recycling Association (VRA) and the Solid Waste Association of North America Old Dominion Chapter (SWANA) will host their 2ndjoint conference and trade show at the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront, April 29 – May 1, 2020.  The theme of the conference is Navigating Changes on the Horizon which will speak to the challenges the industries face as global recycling markets are in flux.

Educational topics this year will include tracks on new technologies for landfills, recycling facilities and exciting variations for glass recycling. Several sessions will include information about China’s National Sword and there are sessions that incorporate how climate change affects our industries. This year the conference offers a pre-workshop on Disaster Recovery where attendees can produce a disaster recovery plan for their locality. Industry tours are scheduled at Mt. Trashmore and Southeaster Public Service Authority Landfill where conference attendees will get a behind-the-scenes look at solid waste processes including a new state-of-the-art Leachate Management System, gas to energy plant, transfer station and tire processing facility

“In addition to our technical sessions and tours the conference committee has planned several events showcasing the Virginia Beach area including a horseback riding excursion on the beach and an outdoor family-friendly reception at a popular local hang-out” said conference chair, Craig Coker. “We are also hosting a golf tournament on April 29 at the Red Wing Lake Golf Course.”

A conference registration includes access to all meetings, sessions and speakers, admission to the exhibit hall, breakfast, lunches and receptions Wednesday and Thursday evenings. The deadline to register for the conference is April 15.
