The Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management’s (DSWM) Waste Management Enterprise Fund has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the 24th consecutive year. The prestigious award was presented for the Waste Management Enterprise Fund’s Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the fiscal years ended Sept. 30, 2017 and Sept. 30, 2016.

According to GFOA, “The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”

“The Miami-Dade County Department of Solid Waste Management is one of the best government owned and operated waste management systems in the country,” said Alina T. Hudak, Deputy Mayor and Department Director for DSWM. “It is our mission to excel in all areas. For the 24th consecutive year, our Department’s Waste Management Fund is internationally recognized by the GFOA. Without a doubt, the Department has proven its longstanding commitment to excellence in financial management and reporting,” added Hudak.

The CAFR was judged by a panel of impartial experts to meet extremely high standards, including “demonstrating a constructive spirit of disclosure to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.”
