Crews and families are continuing to clean up storm debris. A lot of that debris is going to Missouri Organic Recycling. Over the last 2 1/2 weeks, their location off U.S. Highway 40 has seen 5,000 tons of storm damage. Their other three locations are seeing similar numbers. “This will probably be at 15 to 20,000 tons of storm damage when it’s all said and done,” owner Kevin Anderson said. “When this material comes in, what we’re doing is processing it, grinding it through big tub grinders and then making mulch.”

After days of grinding, refinement and coloring, the storm debris is eventually recycled into products like mulch, compost and soils. “Ultimately, I think it feels good to know that it’s not just going to go into the landfill and being buried and then who knows what happens from there,” Anderson said. “Everything that’s coming down in the city of Kansas City will eventually turn into a product that will eventually be at a Home Depot or Lowe’s or a Sutherlands or sold bulk to lots of different landscapers here in Kansas City.”
