A team of recycling advocates from Waste Connections will soon begin checking recycle carts that residents have set out at the curb for pickup. If the team spots items that should not be placed in recycle carts, such as plastic grocery bags, frozen food boxes or disposable coffee cups, a reminder tag will be placed on the cart. The tag will tell residents what unaccepted item was seen and provide information about what items are allowed in the recycle carts.
The program begins the week of Jan. 20. Recycling advocates will visit neighborhoods across Clark County and may return to some neighborhoods more than once. The recycling advocates will be easily identifiable; they will wear safety vests or other high-visibility clothing and drive a Waste Connections vehicle. They will only lift the cart lid, peek at its contents and note items they see inside that should not be placed in the cart. They will not touch or remove items or collect any identifiable information from the cart.
The program aims to provide firsthand recycling feedback to residents, with the goal of improving recycling practices and keeping items that cannot be recycled out of the blue carts.
