The Ohio chapter of the NWRA applauds Ohio Governor Mike DeWine for signing legislation that included a ban on texting while driving. The law makes driving while texting a primary offense. A significant win for the Ohio Chapter members is this piece of legislation excludes electronic logs and handheld devices that our members’ employees use daily in the cab.

“We thank Governor DeWine for signing this legislation. It will make the roads safer for waste collection workers in Ohio,” said Katie Evans, NWRA Vice President, Chapter Management and Member Relations.

The law is not a complete ban on texting while driving. Drivers can use the phone if they are stopped at a red light, are using the speakerphone function, or have the phone to their ears but not texting or typing on it.
