On behalf of the Board of Directors, OWMA is pleased to provide an organizational leadership and staffing update. After an extensive search, OWMA is thrilled to announce that on October 24, 2022, Ashley De Souza will join as the association’s new CEO.

Ashley brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the association having worked directly with business, government, and associations throughout his career. Prior to joining OWMA, Ashley was Managing Director of Lazaret Capital and formerly was Executive Director of the Ryerson Institute for Infrastructure Innovation (RIII). In addition, Ashley was the Director of Government Relations for the Ontario Road Builders’ Association (ORBA), and he was Vice President, Policy & Government Relations at the Council of Ontario Construction Associations. Prior to his industry association work, Ashley worked as a senior political advisor for the provincial government, including roles at the Ministry of Public Infrastructure Renewal and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

“I am honoured to join OWMA at such a pivotal time in the organization’s history. I look forward to working with our membership and driving ongoing value, support, and advocacy for the industry. As the province’s largest environmental services association, we must continue to be a strong and impactful voice for the waste management sector as we help to make the province greener, cleaner, and more sustainable,” said De Souza.

The OWMA Board would also like to thank Peter Hargreave for his ongoing leadership as Interim CEO over the last few months. Peter’s knowledge and commitment to the sector and his positive approach have played an important role in helping to advance key policy activities and enhancing the relationships with OWMA members. OWMA looks forward to continuing to work with Peter over the coming months during this continued transition.
