After receiving proposals from the city’s current hauler, Republic Services, Flood Brothers, and LakeShore Recycling Services, the council decided late last year to award the contract to Flood Brothers. At the city council meeting Tuesday night (May 28), City Administrator Joe Wade said that Flood Brothers came recommended from other nearby cities and offered “savings across the board” for both residential and commercial collection services.

The current monthly waste disposal rate for single-family homes with unlimited yard waste is $20.02. For townhome customers, the rate is $11.98. For customers in multi-family buildings, the rate is $9.81. Costs for back-door and twice-a-week waste and recycling collection are slightly higher, at $34.45 and $26.32, respectively.

With Flood Brothers, monthly rates for residential collection services will decrease by as much as 25% in Prospect Heights. Businesses with commercial collection services will see rate reductions between 20 and 39%, depending on container size and frequency of pick-ups. After the first year, residential collection rates will increase annually by between 1.5 and 3.5%. The city will begin transitioning from Republic Services to Flood Brothers at the end of June, and the city’s current contract with Republic Services will expire June 30.
