Residents from Robertson County made time to attend a free Recycling Roundup at Watauga Elementary School on May 11th, organized by Tennessee Environmental Council (TEC), a nonprofit organization and Ridgetop City Mayor, Tim Shaw. Over 170 households dropped off over 18,000 pounds of materials.

Friends and neighbors from Ridgetop and Greenbrier volunteered to help unload materials from the vehicles that drove through. Liberty Tire (tires), S3 Recycling Solutions (electronics), Knighthorst (paper shredding), Shrum Auto Salvage (scrap metal), and WM (glass and cardboard) were all on site to collect materials for recycling. Mattresses collected will be recycled by SpringBack in Nashville and clothing was taken to ThriftSmart, also in Nashville.

TEC’s Recycle Tennessee Program Director , Abby Schneider said, “We had a great turnout in Ridgetop. We are thankful to Ridgetop Mayor, Tim Shaw, for getting the word out and helping us provide this resource for the Ridgetop community. We are glad we were able to keep so many materials in the economy and out of the landfill.”
