The Rivanna Solid Waste Authority, or RSWA, is building a baling facility to support recycling at Ivy Material Utilization Center. Typically used by farmers, balers cut and compress different materials into a square bale. This will make it easier for the MUC to transport waste and gives it even more space to store it.

The Director of Solid Waste for RWSA Phillip McKalips says he hopes construction on the new facility will begin in the coming months. “Design is pretty much complete at this point,” McKalips said. “We’re going through permitting and we hope to go out to bid for a construction bid in August.”

If all goes according to plan construction could be complete by the end of next year.
