The Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments announced the following grant projects were recently approved by the Solid Waste Management District Executive Board.

According to the news release, the grant applications will be sent to the Department of Natural Resources for approval and allocation of funds. It is expected the new projects will be approved and ready begin on July 1, 2018.

A total of $87,426.29 was available for the grant call. A total of $54,665.00 was approved leaving a remainder of $32,761.29 in the district’s account. A second FY 2019 grant call may be held later this summer to try to get the funds out into the community.

Northwest Missouri State University — Horizontal Baler $19,500.00 — Northwest Missouri State University is seeking support from the Northwest Missouri Regional Solid Waste Management District to purchase a used top-feed horizontal baler to support recycling efforts on campus and throughout the northwest Missouri region. The proposed project will increase the efficiency of recycling plastics (PET, HDPE), paper, cardboard and aluminum.

Northwest Missouri State University — Perforator $19,500.00 — Northwest Missouri State University is seeking support from the Northwest Missouri Regional Solid Waste Management District to purchase a mixed material perforator to support recycling efforts on campus and throughout the northwest Missouri region. The proposed project will nearly triple the efficiency of recycling plastics (PET, HDPE), from the campus and surrounding community.

HHW Vendor Pick-up — $11,242.00 — The Northwest Missouri Regional Council of Governments (Regional Council) and Regions C, D, and F entered into a three (3) year, renewable annually, contract with Clean Harbors.

The contract includes delivery of replacement containers and pick-up from the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection site. The grant also covers cost of advertising, public outreach and education about HHW.
