For the second year, SERDC is hosting a virtual annual membership meeting. With such an exciting list of speakers, the planning committee decided to offer free registration for both members and non-member attendees. The two-day event is Tuesday, November 30 and Wednesday, December 1.

Recycling is a market-driven industry. Industry challenges over the past 4 years of disrupted markets, the pandemic, labor shortages, and increased costs have been significant. Even so, the outlook for recycling is optimistic. The SERDC Annual Meeting will examine the outlook and how can we strengthen the role of recycling in a circular economy, manufacturing and jobs.

Tuesday’s Keynote is on Strengthening Recycling’s Role from the Secretary of North Carolina’s Department of Environmental Quality, Elizabeth Biser. The day features updates from partner organizations on measurement, certification and residential recycling programs. The National Recycling Goals from the US EPA will be discussed, community recycling program successes and an update from SERDC on activities conducted and planned.

Wednesday’s Keynote is Robin Wiener, President of ISRI on Recycling News at the Federal Level, Current Market Conditions, and the Factors Driving Demand. State Agencies within the 11 state SERDC region will share news, along with SERDC partner organizations on market development, zero waste certification and research. Speakers from two of the recently announced plastic advanced recycling facilities planned for the Southeast will discuss potential impact on residential recycling programs. The day ends with the SERDC member meeting, which includes elections for the 2022 Board of Directors openings.
