Due to schools being closed for the remainder of the school year, Texas Disposal Systems (TDS ) is offering engaging resources for families. TDS is also making Lesson 1 of its Eco Academy elementary curriculum readily available online for anyone to download.

The TDS Eco Academy is a program designed to help minimize waste in Central Texas schools by educating K-12 students about trash, recycling and composting options. The program provides training, signage, curriculum and other educational materials for staff, administrators and students at partner school districts with the goal of making learning fun and enabling real-world application.

“Whether they are learning at school or learning from home, the future starts with today’s students,” said Leticia Mendoza, Texas Disposal Systems’ Director of Marketing and Communications. “The knowledge that Eco Academy provides empowers students to make a difference at home and in our community. TDS believes that by educating students about recycling and composting, they will develop co-friendly habits and become lifelong good stewards of our planet.”

In an effort to provide additional resources to families, TDS is happy to share a blog that offers the following helpful tips and tools for more hands-on eco-friendly learning at home:

  • Virtual Learning and Field Trips

As daily routines now include virtual learning tools, TDS provides parents with some great video resources and invites the entire family to take virtual field trips with them.

  • Nature Bingo

This fun game not only gets the kiddos outside for some fresh air, it gives them a chance to connect with nature and learn a little more about their environment.

  • Waste Wizard

Now more than ever, parents want to find ways to make chore time, well, less of a chore. The TDS Waste Wizard can help remind families of collection day so there’s no excuse for missing it. The app also makes a “game” of sorting various types of waste. The “Waste Sorting Game” challenges everyone to brush up on their waste sorting knowledge.

  • Earth Month Coloring Pages

TDS has partnered with local Austin artist, Becca Borrelli, to create fun and playful themed coloring pages to celebrate Mother Earth. To download the coloring pages, visit Texasdisposal.com. Parents are encouraged to share their family’s finished product on Texas Disposal Systems’ Facebook page.
