On March 7, 2024, The US Composting Council (USCC) released its Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access (DEIA) Benchmarking Study for organizations in the composting industry to participate in. The study will remain open until April 15, 2024.

The study was developed by the USCC DEIA Committee to gather demographic data of the composting industry and allow organizations to compare their results with the aggregate data of all study participants. No answers, surveys, or participants will be identified in the results. The unique report each participant receives will only include that participant’s data and the aggregate data. After the study closes, participants will receive these results in a unique report, as well as next steps they could take to increase opportunities for underrepresented and underserved individuals in the industry.

The USCC will use the study to better understand the access gap of the composting industry and work to address it by institutionalizing DEIA in its operations and initiatives as well as working with other organizations—USCC members and non-members alike—to find solutions that will benefit the industry.

The study is sponsored by the Illinois Food Scrap & Composting Coalition, Better Earth, Common Ground Compost, the North Carolina Composting Council, and Resource Recycling Systems.
