ecomaine, Maine’s pioneer of single-sort recycling, is pleased to celebrate the launch of its single-sort recycling services with Vinalhaven residents on October 14. Being an ecomaine member community not only comes with the added convenience of mixing all recyclables into one bin, it also entitles the town and schools to take advantage of ecomaine’s robust education and outreach programming. This begins with the New Recycling Program Kick-off event Sunday, October 14 at the Vinalhaven Transfer Station, 178 Round the Island Road.
The first 100 households to stop by the Vinalhaven Transfer Station between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, October 14 will receive a free 22-gallon ecomaine recycling bin. Attendees will also have the option to enter drawings for an “I’m an ecomaineiac” t-shirt made from recycled plastic bottles and kitchen countertop food composting buckets. ecomaine staff will be on hand to provide answers to residents’ questions about what can and can’t be recycled in single sort recycling and how the program works.
“We look forward to partnering with Vinalhaven residents to increase their recycling rates and reduce the amount of waste that eventually ends up in permanent landfill storage. This is particularly important now, as recycling programs have been cut or eliminated in other areas.” said Kevin Roche, Chief Executive Officer of ecomaine.
