As Rumpke plans construction of its multimillion-dollar Recycling & Resource Center, they are making property and buildings available for critical “Save Our Own” training for hundreds of Columbus firefighters. To make way for construction of the largest and most technologically advanced recycling center in North America demolition of existing properties is necessary, but before the buildings come down Rumpke is putting the structures to great use by making them available for firefighter training.

“Safety and responsibility to the communities we service is part of the Rumpke Waste & Recycling mission. When this opportunity to provide a training mechanism for the Columbus Fire Department presented itself, the decision was an easy one,” said Randy Broadright, area safety manager, Rumpke. “These fire fighters risk their lives to keep our communities safe in a variety of situations, if we can, in some small way, assist them in saving lives and protecting the local neighborhoods, Rumpke is 100 percent onboard.”.

The “Save Our Own” training provides firefighters with an opportunity to experience real-life rescue scenarios in a safe, controlled environment. Firefighters will practice door breeching techniques, hose transport and interior and exterior movement in confined, smoke-filled areas better preparing them to stay safe during fire and rescue events. “This program has been a collaborative effort from the start. Rumpke would also like to thank the residents of the North Central Area, specifically American Addition, for their support of this useful training exercise,” added Broadright.
