Fleetmind Solutions and McNeilus Truck & Manufacturing, Inc. announces that Automotive Fleet and Heavy Duty Trucking magazines have named Mr. Richard Knight, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Knight Waste Services, as a 2016 Fleet Technology Expo (FTX) Award honoree in the heavy-duty fleet category.  The FTX Awards recognize fleet owners who have made significant contributions to environmental sustainability and fleet efficiencies in the light- to medium-duty and heavy-duty industries.

Knight Waste Services (Knight) was established in 2003 to service the City of Fort Worth’s residential garbage and recycling collection. Knight operates 26 McNeilus automated side load (ASL) trucks providing weekly curbside collection for 94,000 residential households in Fort Worth, TX. To optimize fleet operations, Knight recently deployed the Street Smart Vision by McNeilus™ SSV10 system, a comprehensive and fully-integrated onboard computing solution powered by FleetMind.

“At Knight Waste, it is our core mission to continuously improve our operations to optimize efficiencies, customer service and sustainability,” said Knight. “This award is a tribute to our team and our entire organization, and I am honored to accept it on everyone’s behalf. We had a vision of a smarter, better and more productive waste collection fleet, and together with our technology partners – FleetMind and McNeilus – we were able to realize this goal to benefit our customers, our municipal partners and our environment.”

The SSV10 system brings together an in-cab monitor, a mobile onboard computer and a DVR platform that integrates with a number of software features. Route management software optimizes the routing process, reduces maintenance costs, and helps reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Up to eight cameras provide drivers and managers with a complete view around the truck for improved visibility, accountability and safety.

“Fleet optimization efforts are not quick or easy, but take dedication, thoughtful leadership and a willingness to explore new technologies,” said Martin Demers, Vice-President of FleetMind. “Richard clearly personifies these attributes, and we are delighted to have contributed toward delivering on his progressive vision. We congratulate both Richard and the Knight Waste organization for this much-deserved recognition.”

Director Aftermarket Product Development at McNeilus, Bryan Dodds, added: “Knight researched numerous fleet management technology options before selecting the SSV10 system. We first had to prove to Knight that our solution would fulfill their exacting expectations as part of an initial pilot project. Once satisfied, we deployed the SSV10 solution for the entire Knight fleet enabling measurable improvements to overall fleet performance. We are thrilled to have been selected for this project and could not be prouder of Knight’s achievement.” Mr. Knight was recognized as part of the FTX Awards Ceremony that took place at the Fleet Technology Expo on Wednesday, October 19th in Schaumburg, Illinois.
