McKinney City Council selected Frontier Waste Solutions and Balcones Recycling as the city’s new providers for trash and recycling collection, and recycling processing services. McKinney city staff are working to execute contracts with companies following the decision by council to change providers for both services. The new providers are expected to begin service in October 2024.
The city issued a request for proposals in late 2022 and received bids from four companies, according to a presentation by Assistant City Manager Steve Tilton. Of the four respondents, three submitted proposals for trash and recycling collection services. Balcones submitted two proposals, including seven-year and 15-year options.
City staff recommended the selection of the two providers based on a scoring process that evaluated the company’s qualifications, financial history, proposed cost of service and more, Tilton said.
