Recycling Partnership Set at Former Coal Mine in Jasonville, IN

Fishers-based Land Betterment Corp. is partnering with a third-party scrap metal company on a recycling effort in Greene County. The company says the multi-year agreement with Texas-based Kodiak Metals Recycling will involve recycling retired coal railcars and old coal mine infrastructure at its Jasonville property. Land Betterment is currently in the process of transforming the former Landree Mine into a “farm-to-bottle” craft distillery known as Coal Craft Spirits. The company says the recycling effort will expedite the redevelopment.

As part of the deal, Land Betterment will allocate certain areas of the property to receive, store and process the retired railcars, which will be recycled or reused for alternative purposes. Kodiak will also be able to process metal infrastructure, which had previously been used at the mine, to be recycled.

“We are extremely excited to partner on this unique project at the old Landree Mine site to not only upcycle the property but also recycle coal railcars that are wasting away in various parts of the United States,” said Kirk Taylor, president of Land Betterment. “This partnership allows us to isolate an area on this property that can be utilized alongside our business development efforts.”
