Republic Services, formerly High Country Disposal, is expanding the curbside compost program in Redmond to include all food waste. On November 1, Republic Services started to collect all food waste in the curbside compost subscription program. Customers within the city of Redmond can sign up for the yard debris subscription service.

Previously, residents with yard debris service could add green waste and raw vegetative waste. As of Nov. 1, customers with curbside compost service can add all food scraps directly into their yard debris carts, along with their yard trimmings. The yard debris and food scraps will be processed into nutrient-rich compost by Deschutes Recycling.

“We are excited to expand the curbside organics program and now anyone with yard debris subscription service can add food scraps,” says Joe Dear, general manager of Republic Services. “The material is processed into compost to use on lawns and gardens, creating a closed-loop food system for our community.”

Customers with yard debris subscription service are invited to pick up a free two-gallon kitchen pail at the Republic Services’ Redmond office. The kitchen pail is a convenient way to collect and store food scraps until it is emptied into the yard debris cart for collection.
