My garbage guys have left Livingston County — and so have yours. Sterling Heights-based Rizzo Environmental Services on July 22 acquired South Lyon-based Duncan Disposal Systems, popular among Livingston County residents for its “My Garbage Guy” signature motto as well as its forest-green and white trash bins.

RES has added more than 50,000 more homes to its service area with the acquisition. “One great family-run waste hauler is joining another great family-run company today,” RES CEO Chuck Rizzo said. “The Duncan family has built a strong company with a great reputation.

“Like Rizzo, they are a Michigan-based family company priding themselves on providing their customers with excellent service.”

RES, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, added Duncan customers in Genoa Township, South Lyon, Northville Township and Walled Lake. The company plans to retain as many Duncan employees as possible.

The company is the largest municipal waste hauler in metro Detroit, serving more than 500,000 customers in 53 communities in Livingston, Washtenaw, Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

RES, which has customers in other parts of Livingston, hopes to take over the municipal contract Duncan now has with Genoa Township.

“The addition of Genoa Township, along with our 20,000 subscription-based customers in Livingston and Washtenaw counties, represents our first expansion outside of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties,” Rizzo said. “Our continued growth across southeast Michigan proves that we continue to be the choice of municipalities, individual homeowners and commercial customers.
