Seattle City’s cleanest fleet is part of commitment to clean air and world-class sustainability leadership. The new Waste Management fleet includes::

  • 91 trucks which are powered by renewable natural gas. The trucks have near zero engine developed by Cummins, the cleanest ever certified by the California Air Resources Board and the Environmental Protection Agency.
  • The trucks emit 70% lower than traditional diesel and 65% lower than compressed natural gas.
  • 8 Nissan Leaf electric vehicles for use by WM route managers and bilingual recycling educators assigned to help Seattle residents and businesses reduce waste.
  • 2 battery-electric Class 6 box trucks, the which workers will use to keep downtown alleys clean and provide special collection services.

Washington state has committed to a complete transition to green energy by 2045, and seeks to eliminate fossil fuels like natural gas and coal from the state’s electricity supply by 2045.
