The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department (SWMD), in partnership with Houston Independent School District (HISD), announces the 1st place winners of the 2nd Annual Truck Art Contest “Reimagine: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. The winners of this year’s art contest will have their original artwork displayed on SWMD collection trucks, creatively showcasing the talent of Houston students, as well as increasing awareness of recycling in the Houston area. Students and their families were recognized during City Council session on Tuesday, May 7th to recognize their accomplishments.

2nd Annual Truck Art Contest Winners:

  • Jose Najera – Pin Oak Middle School – Special Education
  • Baraka Farooq – T. H. Rogers School – 3rd Grade
  • Yin Ho Jalen Wan – Mandarin Immersion Magnet School – 8th Grade
  • Cynthia Zhou – Michael E. DeBakey High School for Health Professions – 11th Grade

SWMD would like to thank HISD students for participating in this year’s contest which received over 100 submissions. “These works of art will be regularly featured in bold display on our trucks as they deliver services across Houston, showcasing the talent of Houston students, while increasing awareness of the City’s recycling programs,” said SWMD Director Mark Wilfalk.
