A subscription recycling program is looking to increase its presence across Southeast Texas. Recyclops, a curbside or recycling program operating in several areas nationwide, already has service in Beaumont, Port Arthur, Groves, Port Neches, Nederland and the surrounding areas in Southeast Texas. But it’s now working to get more households in Vidor and Nederland to participate.

Working in tandem with the company, the city of Nederland is going so far as to host a collection event, which will serve as a trial for the city “Last year I reached out to Recyclops regarding their interest in a collection event to host a once a month drop-off event,” said Nederland City Manager Chris Duque. “The proposed event would be held on a Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A minimum of two city employees would work overtime to check driver’s licenses or utility bills to verify residency and to inspect the materials to avoid contamination.”

Recyclops would pick up the bagged recyclables from the event and take them to Houston, where they would be aggregated and begin their journey to become new products, including textiles, plates, paper or plastic bottles.
